Dr. Barnsley completed medical school at Dalhousie University in 2001. Because he was granted early acceptance to medical school, he completed his BSc in Biology later in 2005. Following the successful completion of medical school, Dr. Barnsley was accepted into the highly sought-after residency training program in Plastic Surgery at Dalhousie University.

 

During the course of residency training, Dr. Barnsley was accepted into the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Clinician Investigator Program. During this two year program, he held a National Cancer Institute of Canada research fellowship and successfully completed an MSc in Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

After becoming a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Barnsley chose to spend an additional year of advanced clinical training. He spent a year in Las Vegas, Nevada, working under the esteemed plastic surgeon Dr. William Zamboni. During this year, Dr. Barnsley received fellowship training in breast and aesthetic surgery, as well as in hand and microsurgery.

Finally, after eight years of training in plastic surgery after the graduation of medical school, Dr. Barnsley and his family decided to settle down on Vancouver Island. He has an active practice in Nanaimo, where he is pleased to offer patients cosmetic and reconstructive procedures including:

Aside from his interests in surgery, Dr. Barnsley enjoys skiing, mountain biking and  spending time with his wife and children.
